Moonstones were one of my favourite features of Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. Symbolically they are meant to illustrate the journey to nirvana, each circle representing a step along the way to a higher consciousness. Apparently, they are also lucky to touch, and are therefore found at the entrance to Buddhist temples. Quite a welcome mat.
